Is the burlesque performer market getting saturated?

With around a hundred new-comers competing at this years London Burlesque Festival there could be a dark cloud looming on the horizon for our well established stars of burlesque.

Already there are huge numbers on new performers clamoring for spots at our burlesque clubs around the circuit. The problem is not that new talent is stealing our jobs; it’s that many of the not so talented are being booked for no fee at all bringing down the booking price for all of us.

If promoters can get acts for nothing the how will they respond to the high price tag attached to a professional. There has to be a balance, I know a promoter who will not pay more than thirty quid per act. He still has a full line up every week so as far as he’s concerned what’s the problem?

If the market gets saturated with beginners then soon were all going to feel the pinch, were all here to make a living after all so pay a fair price for a quality performer?

Feeling the pinch
London
