Loula Lolly reporting from Canada
Date: 2008-02-01 Night: Starlets vs Harlots
Venue: Pat’s Pub, Vancouver, Canada
Greetings burlesque fans, from here in snowy Vancouver!
I shall be your official Canadian correspondent, with a British accent despite being here for three years now. I will be sending steaming hot news and reviews for your delectation and delight.
I have seen a fair amount of burlesque since alighting in Canada. It seems to be an integral part of many club nights. My first assignment, however, was to a characterful local establishment called Pat’s Pub for the themed night ‘Starlets vs Harlots’. Pure burlesque with lashings of ale to lubricate the capacity crowd, so it goes without saying that things got a little... moist, shall we say?!
A simple, yet effective, idea. The five lovely dancers displayed their Starlet side in the first half of the show and their Harlot side in the second. The audience then got to vote on which side of the fence each lady fell.
The acts were ably compèred by the fabulously fiercesome Iona Whipp who also displayed her performance talents as a drag artist during the interval. On top of all this she refereed a men’s underwear contest especially for the ladies in the audience.
Without further ado here's a round up of what the lovely ladies had on offer...
The Starlets
KT Couture: I missed your first performance, sorry.
Via Rose: Sauntered on in a lustrous pink, pearly themed outfit which she slowly removed to reveal perfect alabaster skin. She held the attention of all with her sultry glances and style.
Farrah Moans: Was super sexy with her showgirl style pink feather fans. Her pouting demeanour and the tattoo writhing around her back enhanced her ample assets. The crowd whooped and roared as she fluttered her fans and tantalised them until the lovely end.
Lady Villainy: Introduced as the resident Spitfire. She was blonde and definitely a bombshell. Slinky red dress and boa set the scene. Once the outer garments were gracefully removed, she stunned us with some hot cheek vibrating action before some accomplished pastie twirling.
Lola Frost: Performed a beautiful Japanese style dance. She was attired in a stunning outfit of black and red. The red parasol and the Obi sash were the first to go. She went on to swirl around the stage with black, lacy wings which set off her skin to perfection.
Second Half – Harlots
The second half kicked off with a great group piece which showed each girl’s originality within the choreographed dance. It was a slow, cheeky can-can with lots of attitude. The sexiest of red and black costumes and lots of butt, topped with a feast of red, sparkly pasties.
Lady Villainy: Used a feline theme in order to illustrate her harlot side. She was very naughty, with a hint of ‘Pink’ attitude. The little pussy cat which emerged from her knickers added a nice comedy touch.
Farrah Moans: Portrayed her harlot alter ego with her signature piece, ‘Nerd Girl’. She overcame her dorky, fifties style inhibitions with the aid of nips from a hip flask. The crowd laughed and loved her.
Miss Lola Frost: Performed a Pulp Fiction tribute in the style of Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman). She captured that classic twisting scene perfectly, adding her own dose of sass to the mix.
KT Couture: This demure vixen with touch-me black curls kept all eyes riveted with her shapely, fishnet encased pins.
Via Rose: The red rose hairpiece, black robe and gloves belied the harlot beneath. Soon a red dress with perfect pleats was revealed and then removed to reveal the beauty beneath.
