New Burlesque Times

Drinking, partying, carousing and generally ripping it up!

We are talking of course about MANCAN, that troupe of wild, frilly skirt wearing maniacs who are quite possibly the funniest and most entertaining burlesque act on the circuit.

Hobnail boots and an array of dubious underwear they high kick, show their bums and finish their act of with a human pyramid topped of with their diminutive mascot Merion.

Back stage is mayhem, some of them are already half cut when they arrive. They are hairy and some of them smell a little, so what is the big deal about these burly half transvestites’ half clowns?

Once they hit the stage you’ll get it, a side splitting impression of a professional cancan crew, they don’t always hit their marks on time but that’s OK. It’s chaotic, anarchic and shambolic and it’s brilliant.

The set pieces are great and to can clearly see how much the Mancan enjoy their performances, all grinning from ear to ear.

Their shows vary with their numbers at larger events they can have up to ten men on stage, a choreographic nightmare but they hold it together somehow. It’s well organized chaos and there’s a charm about these fusti festi lads and it’s a tonic for the snooty high brow burlesque stalwarts, a tickle in the ribs followed by a firm kick in the balls!

You can catch them on the festival circuit this year and our tip is they have a very big chance of bcoming a huge act Internationally.
